Design...

After listening to Jonathan Ive talk about the reasoning behind Apple design, he made me realise that products should be designed to have a function, from the purpose of materials, the aesthetics of the look (also coming from the use/ positioning of components) , the reason behind the shape, why it should perform a certain way & that components should only exist if they have a use, rather than having a component that is useless. A blatantly obvious reasoning, but understood.

Nike Sportswear 2010 Spring HTM2 Run Boot TZ

It's always often that I gain inspiration from new designs, especially work from one of my favorite companies/ designers & only to wish I came up with the idea first, especially just before I start my final major project! Nike have done it again, hiking will soon become an Olympians game if they had it their way! Streamline, colour co-ordination, smooth textures, clean cut & innovative...lovely!

"Sometimes crossing the train platform can be as challenging as hiking Mt. Hood. Drawing on this insight, design super-group Hiroshi Fujiwara, Tinker Hatfield, Mark Parker and Mark Smith set out to revolutionize the traditional ankle boot for both style and performance. The process led them deep into Nike’s chest of running innovations and onto the track for some serious testing. After a year-and-a-half of rigorous testing, the result is the Nike HTM2 Run Boot.

Addressing the need for stability, flexibility and weatherproofing, the HTM2 incorporates Nike Free natural-motion technology combined with a lightweight, water-repellant, four-way-flexible upper. Details like the elastic gusset and pull straps nod to traditional Chelsea boot styling while notching up the functionality of the HTM2—slip it on, and it stays in place.

Form has been given no less consideration than function. The HTM2 Run Boot High’s slim top and low-profile grey colorway with volt/anthracite highlights allow for effortless pairing. The HTM2 Run Boot Low comes in four colorways: in black-on-black, neutral grey/white, black/white, dark obsidian/vivid pink and white. The design also enhances the easy-on, easy-off concept further. Both features a protective rubberized toe cap for durability and a spray-stenciled swoosh.

The HTM2 builds on the collaboration between Fujiwara, Hatfield and Parker that began in 2002 with the HTM Woven Boot. The second “M” of the HTM2 moniker stands for Jordan Brand Creative Director Mark Smith, who was invited to join the inner circle and bring to the table his expertise in crafting finely-detailed, premium footwear. Smith is known for his pioneering use of laser technology on Nike shoes, which has gained his designs a loyal following among sneaker aficionados.

Hiroshi Fujiwara is the founder of Fragment Design and is a global sportswear icon. Tinker Hatfield is recognized as one of the most innovative designers in the history of footwear. Mark Parker’s visionary leadership, while a member of Nike’s design team, earned him his current position as Nike CEO.

Put these four men in a room and something special is bound to happen. It’s this devotion to experimentation and the belief that there is always a way to improve on the past that caught the attention of Nike’s Innovation Kitchen during the Run Boot’s development. They are a hard bunch to please. The fit, comfort and performance provided by the HTM2 Run Boot put it in a class of its own.

The Nike HTM2 Run Boot is available exclusively in Japan and at 21 Mercer on Feb. 20th and March 1st, 2010."

Adobe: making the world more interactive

"The current state of print media has inevitably opened up a wave of potential conceptual solutions. Back in December, a concept courtesy of Bonnier and their Mag+ prototype offered a glimpse into what the future may hold. Fast forward a few months later, massive software company Adobe has outlined some of their own ideas in a video. Aligning themselves with WIRED magazine, the two aim to potentially solve and update the current format for print magazines. The project keeps fully in mind the necessary and sound business plan needed to gain traction amongst advertisers all while maintaining positive experiences for readers."

I can not wait to be able to read my favourite fashion & sports mags in this format, imagine reading Nuts mag...

Machotaildrop

"The trailer to Canadian filmmakers Corey Adams and Alex Craig’s ambitious debut feature Machotaildrophas been unveiled. What seems to be a revolutionary concept for a skate film is the result of $1,000,000 in prize money from a Fuel TV short film contest. The film is a highly visual and fantastical journey about an amateur skateboarder exploring the dreams of sponsorship and stardom in a fanciful realm. Veteran and current pro’s like Steve Olson, John Rattray and Rick McCrank bless this movie with humorous supporting roles. A release date for Machotaildrop has yet to be confirmed."

I'll be honest with you...i cant wait to see this beauty!

Alexander McQueen 2010 Autumn/ Winter Men's

McQueen's latest collection as always is visually striking, with a mixture of clean cut patterns, silhouettes with abstract prints & a collaboration of traditional materials/ colours. With a range of headpieces & face masks that match the abstraction perfectly "providing an interesting juxtaposition". Another body of work from a great company that doesn't fault in bringing us spectacular garments.

Filling my current infatuation of fur & wool, i cant say no to this range.

I'm sure Oki-ni will have their stock of balaclavas in soon enough!
